Welcome to the first issue of the moderated SfAA Newsletter. For the last two years, the SfAA Newsletter has arrived on time, a gift from the Office, without a formal editor. We are happy to announce that we, Jeanne Simonelli and Orit Tamir, have agreed to relieve them of that task.

First and foremost, the Newsletter is about news. As the new editors we would like the SfAA News to be a way to get the word about on-going events to the membership in a timely way. We’ll keep that happening. In the meantime, we look forward to receiving submissions for the upcoming issue. Please submit your news; deadlines for the next issue are no later than January 18 for publication in February. The February issue spotlights the Portland meetings. Send short blurbs focusing on what your co-sponsor, TIG, or interest group has planned. And don’t forget to come in time for Tuesday, Portland Day.

We’d like to hear from you concerning what you want to see in your newsletter. We’ll maintain a quarterly focus on applied programs, so if you would like your program highlighted, let us know. We will continue to publish articles on pressing issues, such as immigration, climate change, or education, among others, plus an update of the oral history project. How do you reach us? Send queries, suggestions, and articles to Orit at

It’s good to be back.
